Emperor and Empress of Russia Grateful
Bestow Marks of Their Esteem on Rev. S. Dabovich and Horace G. Platt
The Emperor and Empress of Russia have been paying some citizens of San Francisco grateful and heartfelt compliments in acknowledgment of important services rendered the suffering on the battlefield in the conflict now raging in the Far East.
There have been entertainments in this city in aid of the Red Cross Society and each occasion has proved the sympathy that exists here for suffering humanity. Foremost among those who have taken an active part in the affairs have been the Rev. Sebastian Dabovich of the Greek-Russian Cathedral and Horace G. Platt, Vice Consul for Russia, whose indefatigable service, extending over a number of years, has earned for him the highest appreciation of the Czar. Mr. Platt has just received from the Czar a handsome cigarette case, studded with gems. The outside is composed of pale green enamel, on which is the imperial coat of arms, designed in diamonds. The case is lined with pure gold. Since that graceful act the Rev. Sebastian Dabovich has received the personal expressions of gratitude of the Empress through hi Excellency, Count Cassini.1
