Publisher’s Preface
If one were to search for a list of the works of Saint Sebastian Dabovich, principally, three works works appear, A History of the Orthodox Church in California, The Lives of the Saints, and Preaching in the Russian Church, all which we have included in the preceding sections. Yet, while Saint Sebastian did indeed publish those three books, he was a much more prolific writer, exchanging correspondence with other Christians (as seen in The Position of the Orthodox Eastern Church) and submitting articles for the Russian American Orthodox Messenger and the local San Francisco newspaper, The San Francisco Call. We are happy that these “lost” writings of Saint Sebastian can once again be read easily, some of which have not been readily accessible in over a century.
This is a digital edition of Beacon from the Bay: The Collected Works of Saint Sebastian Dabovich of Jackson and San Francisco, a several-month-long project to catalogue the out-of-print works of Saint Sebastian Dabovich, the first American-born Orthodox priest.
